The Fire Cape: Your First PvM Goal

The Fire Cape is the first major PvM accomplishment for most OSRS players. It requires defeating TzTok-Jad in the Fight Caves, a 63-wave challenge culminating in one of the most iconic boss fights in the game. With the right preparation, you can get your cape on your first try.

Requirements

Ranged: 70+ (75+ recommended for Blowpipe)
Prayer: 43+ (Protection Prayers are mandatory)
Defence: 40+ (70+ makes it much safer)
Hitpoints: 60+ recommended

Gear Setup

Budget (~5M)

Blessed dragonhide set, Toxic Blowpipe with Adamant darts
Amulet of Fury, Avas Assembler, Barrows Gloves
Archers Ring (i), Blessed boots

Recommended (~20M)

Karil/Armadyl armor, Blowpipe with Rune or Dragon darts
Necklace of Anguish, Pegasian boots

Inventory

6-8 Saradomin Brews
4-6 Super Restores
1 Ranging potion
1 Bastion potion
Purple Sweets (optional, for emergency healing)

Wave Guide

Waves 1-30: Easy

Low-level TzHaar monsters. Pray nothing, conserve supplies. Use safe spots behind Italy Rock (the large rock formation).

Waves 31-46: Ket-Zek Magers

Ket-Zeks hit hard with Magic. Pray Mage at all times when they are alive. Kill them first, then clean up smaller monsters.

Waves 47-62: 360s and 180s

Continue praying Mage against 360s (magers). 180s (rangers) can be safespotted. Always prioritize magers.

Wave 63: TzTok-Jad

The big one. Jad uses Ranged and Magic attacks:

Ranged attack: Jad slams his feet on the ground. Switch to Protect from Ranged
Magic attack: Jad rears back and his legs glow. Switch to Protect from Magic

THE KEY: Watch Jads FIRST attack. Pray Ranged by default (his first attack is usually Ranged). Switch to Mage when you see the leg glow animation. Switch back to Ranged after the Mage attack lands.

Jads Healers

At 50% HP, 4 healers spawn and heal Jad. You must:

Tag each healer with one Blowpipe hit (do NOT attack Jad while tagging)
Keep switching prayers between tags
Once all 4 are tagged, they attack you instead of healing Jad
Finish Jad while the healers hit you (they do minimal damage with Protect prayers)

Tips for First-Timers

Practice prayer switches on the Jad Simulator (Google "Jad simulator" for online tools)
Turn on sounds. Jad attacks have distinct sound effects that help with switching
Do NOT panic when healers spawn. Take your time and tag them one at a time
Italy Rock is your friend. Use it to safe spot throughout the caves
The caves take 45-90 minutes. Do not rush. You have unlimited time
