OSRS Theatre of Blood (ToB) Complete Guide

Theatre of Blood (ToB), also known as Raids 2, is a 1–5 player raid set in the vampyre-controlled realm of Morytania. It is widely considered the most mechanically demanding raid in Old School RuneScape, requiring precise prayer switches, movement, and team coordination across five sequential bosses. The rewards include some of the most powerful items in the game, most notably the Scythe of Vitur.

Requirements

To enter ToB, you need to have completed A Taste of Hope quest. There are no direct stat requirements, but realistically you should have:

90+ in all combat stats
77 Prayer (for Piety, Rigour, Augury)
High-tier gear across all combat styles
Experience with prayer switching under pressure

ToB also has a Hard Mode (Expert Mode) which increases all boss health and modifies mechanics for better unique drop rates.

Gear Setup

ToB heavily favours melee but all three styles are used situationally:

Melee: Bandos or Torva, Scythe of Vitur (if available), Avernic Defender, Primordial Boots
Ranged: Armadyl armor, Twisted Bow or Armadyl Crossbow, Pegasian Boots
Magic: Ancestral or Ahrims, Kodai Wand or Trident of the Swamp

Bring a wide supply of Saradomin Brews and Super Restores. A common split is 10 brews and 8 restores for longer attempts.

The Five Bosses

1. The Maiden of Sugadinti

The Maiden is the first boss and often considered an entry-level check. She attacks with ranged and blood magic. Key mechanics:

Blood Spawns: Small spawns walk toward Maiden and heal her if they reach her. Kill them immediately with AoE or ranged.
Blood Splats: Red circles appear on the floor — move out immediately to avoid high damage.
Freeze Phase: At 70%, 50%, and 30% HP, Maiden spawns more blood spawns and her attack pattern intensifies.

Use Protect from Ranged throughout. Focus Maiden while players with high-range DPS clean up spawns.

2. Pestilent Bloat

Bloat is a stationary boss that walks in a predictable rectangular path. He periodically pauses to stomp — stand under him during this phase for safety. Key mechanics:

Flying limbs: Body parts fall from the ceiling — dodge the shadow indicators on the ground.
Bloat's path: He walks clockwise/anticlockwise — stay ahead of him and never get trapped in a corner.
Stomp phase: When Bloat stops, run under him to be safe from falling limbs and attack melee.

Damage is only dealt during Bloat's walk cycle. Time your attacks around his stomp phases.

3. Nylocas

The Nylocas room is a wave-based encounter. Nylocas spawn from four pillars and attack the central pillars. If all four pillars die, the room resets. Each Nylocas has a colour indicating its weakness: white = melee, blue = magic, green = ranged. Switch weapons constantly based on colour.

Kill Nylocas near the pillars before they reach and damage them. In the final phase, a large boss Nylocas spawns — it changes colour over time and must be killed quickly using the correct attack style for each colour.

4. Sotetseg

Sotetseg attacks with powerful melee and magic. His signature mechanic is the Shadow Realm: one player is sent to a mirrored dark realm and must navigate a maze in sync with the player outside. Both players must step on the same tiles simultaneously.

Red orbs: Sotetseg fires a red orb that passes through the team — the player it targets must run to the back of the room or the whole team takes massive damage.
Death balls: A slow-moving projectile that kills instantly — run from it immediately.
Shadow Realm: The teleported player must match the stepping pattern of tiles that light up, while the outside player attacks Sotetseg.

5. Xarpus

Xarpus has two phases. In Phase 1, he faces the ground and exhumes poison — stand on the exhumed tiles after they've been cleared to deal damage. In Phase 2, he stands up and begins tracking the team with a rotating gaze — when his eye passes you, walk out of his line of sight to avoid screech damage.

The room requires precise positioning and awareness of Xarpus's gaze direction. His attack pattern in Phase 2 fires acid projectiles that hit for very high damage if you're in his vision cone.

6. Verzik Vitur — Final Boss

Verzik is the most complex boss in ToB with three full phases:

Phase 1: Verzik sits on her throne, immune to all damage except from the Dawnbringer staff (brought by one team member). Attack the throne's legs with the Dawnbringer while avoiding her ranged attacks and the green blobs she spawns.

Phase 2: Verzik stands and becomes vulnerable. She attacks with melee, ranged, and magic. Tanking players should stay close; everyone else attacks at range. Web spawns appear — destroy them immediately. At intervals, she fires a powerful purple energy ball — run from it. Heal through her melee attacks using Protect from Melee when she approaches.

Phase 3: Verzik flies up and creates a tornado attack. Players must run around the room in her spiral. Her attacks become even more varied: lightning orbs, healing crab spawns, and rapid multi-style attacks. Kill the healing crabs immediately and maintain spacing to avoid chain lightning.

Key Tips

Communication is critical — call out mechanics as they happen
Assign roles — designate who handles spawns, who tanks, and who cleans up adds
Practice the shadow maze at Sotetseg before full runs
Never stand in red/poison zones — almost all avoidable deaths come from standing in AoE
Bring a Dawnbringer for Phase 1 Verzik — without it you cannot progress
