Necromancy: RS3's Newest Combat Style
Necromancy is RuneScape 3's 5th combat style, released in August 2023 and still one of the most powerful and popular combat methods in 2026. With the March 2026 Combat Modernisation update, Necromancy has been rebalanced alongside all other styles to level 120, making this the perfect time to start training.
Why Train Necromancy?
- Standalone progression: Has its own gear, abilities, and training path separate from other styles
- Extremely powerful: Living Death rotation is one of the highest DPS windows in the game
- Unique playstyle: Conjure the dead, use Death Skulls, and command necrotic power
- Great for bossing: Effective at nearly every boss in the game
Training Methods
Levels 1-20: Tutorial + Rituals
Complete the Necromancy tutorial in the City of Um. This teaches basic mechanics and gets you started with Ritual of the Forge (crafting Necromancy equipment).
Levels 20-60: Combat Training + Rituals
Kill monsters with Necromancy attacks. The City of Um provides training targets. Supplement with Ritual crafting for additional XP. Upgrade your Deathguard and Skull Lantern as you level.
Levels 60-90: Slayer + Boss Training
Use Necromancy for Slayer tasks. At this level, you unlock stronger abilities like Death Skulls and Bloat. Start attempting easier bosses with Necromancy for combat XP.
Levels 90-120: Bossing + High-Level Training
At 90+ you have access to Living Death, one of the strongest DPS rotations in the game. Train through bossing for both XP and GP. Rasial becomes available as the pinnacle Necromancy boss, dropping T95 components.
Key Abilities
- Conjure Skeleton Warrior: Summons a skeleton to fight alongside you
- Death Skulls: Bouncing projectile that hits multiple times. Great DPS
