What Is Varlamore?
Varlamore is Old School RuneScape's newest continent, released in 2024 as part of a major content update. It's home to exciting new bosses, quests, skilling activities, and the Quetzal transport network — making it one of the most content-rich regions ever added to OSRS. Whether you're hunting the Hueycoatl, training Farming at the Civitas allotments, or progressing through the new quest series, getting to Varlamore quickly is essential.
In this guide, we cover every travel method available — from the initial boat crossing to fast-travel shortcuts unlocked through quests and items.
Method 1: The Boat from Kebos Lowlands (Main Entry Route)
The primary way to reach Varlamore for the first time is by taking a boat from the Kebos Lowlands. Specifically, you'll travel from the southern part of the Great Kourend area.
How to get to the boat:
Use the Tithe Farm teleport or walk south through Kebos Lowlands
Alternatively, use the Farming Guild teleport (requires 45 Farming) and head south
Head to the dock on the southern coast of the Kebos Swamp area
Speak to the boatman to sail across to Civitas illa Fortis, Varlamore's main city
Requirements: No quest requirements — any player can take the initial boat ride. This is the recommended entry point for your first visit.
Method 2: Quetzal Transport System
Once you've explored Varlamore, you'll unlock the Quetzal Transport System — OSRS's new fast travel network exclusive to the continent. Quetzals are giant birds stationed at various points across Varlamore that allow quick travel between locations.
Key Quetzal stops include:
Civitas illa Fortis — The main city hub
Hunter's Guild area — For Chins and Cormorant hunting
Colossal Wyrm area — For Slayer and training
Hueycoatl lair entrance — For the new boss
Aldarin — Southern Varlamore settlement
To unlock a Quetzal stop, simply visit that location for the first time. After that, you can fast-travel between all discovered stops instantly.
Method 3: Teleport to Varlamore Directly
Several teleport options give you near-instant access to Varlamore:
Civitas illa Fortis Teleport Tablet
Craftable with the Civitas illa Fortis teleport scroll unlocked via questing
Teleports you directly into the city centre
Great for daily activities, quests, and Agility training
Quetzal Feather / Travel Items
Certain quest rewards and region-specific items provide direct teleport access
Check your inventory for any unlocked travel items from Varlamore quests
Portal Nexus / Achievement Diary Teleports
Players with the Portal Nexus in their Player-Owned House can add the Civitas illa Fortis teleport after unlocking it
Useful for ironmen and mains who train Construction
Method 4: Walking from Great Kourend
If you don't have any teleports or shortcuts, you can always walk from Great Kourend south into the Kebos region and then take the boat. This is the slowest method but requires no items or quest completion. Recommended only for brand-new players or accounts that haven't set up any Kourend teleports yet.
Fastest walking route:
Teleport to Kourend Castle or the Hosidius/Shayzien area
Head south through the Kebos Lowlands
Follow the path to the Varlamore boat dock
Method 5: The Shades of Morton Minigame Teleport (Advanced)
Some experienced players use teleport methods tied to nearby areas for faster access. While not a direct Varlamore teleport, methods like the Xeric's Talisman (for Kebos) can shave travel time significantly before boarding the boat.
Quest Requirements for Faster Access
Completing Varlamore quests unlocks progressively faster travel options. The main quest series includes:
Children of the Sun — Introductory quest, unlocks Civitas illa Fortis access
Twilight's Promise — Unlocks further regions of Varlamore
Secret of the North (adjacent) — Helpful for northern access routes
We strongly recommend completing Children of the Sun immediately on your first visit, as it opens up a large portion of the continent and grants useful teleport options.
Best Method by Account Type
Main accounts: Use the Civitas teleport tablet or Quetzal network — fastest and most convenient
Ironmen: Craft teleport tablets via the quest reward scroll, then use the Quetzal system
Pures / Low-level builds: Boat from Kebos — no stat requirements at all
New players: Walk from Kourend or use the boat as your first method
