Why Farming Is Amazing

Farming is the ultimate passive skill in OSRS. Unlike most skills that require hours of active grinding, Farming is trained through short 5-10 minute runs spread throughout your day. Plant crops, come back later, harvest, repeat. You can train Farming alongside every other activity in the game.

Better yet, herb runs are one of the best passive money makers in OSRS, earning 100-200K per run with minimal effort.

Training Methods

Levels 1-15: Questing

Complete Fairytale Part 1 for 3,500 Farming XP, plus Forgettable Tale and other quests with Farming rewards. These get you past the tedious early levels instantly.

Levels 15-99: Tree Runs (Primary XP Source)

Tree runs are the fastest way to level Farming. Plant trees, wait for them to grow, check their health for massive XP, then repeat.

Regular Trees (patches: Lumbridge, Varrock, Falador, Taverley, Gnome Stronghold):

Level 15: Oak trees (467 XP each)
Level 30: Willow trees (1,456 XP each)
Level 45: Maple trees (3,403 XP each)
Level 60: Yew trees (7,069 XP each)
Level 75: Magic trees (13,768 XP each)

Fruit Trees (patches: Gnome Stronghold, Brimhaven, Catherby, Lletya, Farming Guild):

Level 27: Apple trees (1,199 XP each)
Level 42: Pineapple trees (4,605 XP each)
Level 57: Papaya trees (6,146 XP each)
Level 72: Palm trees (10,150 XP each)
Level 81: Dragonfruit trees (17,335 XP each)

Special Trees:

Level 85: Celastrus trees (14,130 XP) at Farming Guild
Level 90: Redwood trees (22,450 XP) at Farming Guild

Herb Runs (Passive Money)

Do herb runs every 80 minutes alongside your tree runs. Plant the most profitable herb at all available patches:

Ranarr: 200K+ profit per run at higher levels
Snapdragon: 150-250K per run
Toadflax: Safe budget option, consistent profit

Herb Patches: Ardougne, Catherby, Falador, Farming Guild, Harmony Island, Hosidius, Morytania, Troll Stronghold, Weiss

Hespori Boss (Passive XP)

Plant Hespori seeds in the Farming Guild cave. Grows every 22-32 hours. Kill for 12,600 Farming XP + chance at Bottomless Compost Bucket and Iasor/Kronos/Attas seeds.

Cost Estimates

Tree + Fruit Tree runs to 99: ~50-80M GP (using highest tier trees)

Budget path (lower tier trees): ~15-30M GP (slower)

With herb run profits: Herb runs offset most tree costs, making net cost much lower

Tips

Never skip a herb run. Set a timer. Consistent herb runs fund your tree runs.
Use Ultracompost on everything. Reduces disease and increases herb yield.
Plant Calquat trees (level 72) every day. 12,096 XP and cheap to plant.
Farming Guild contracts give free seeds as rewards. Do them every run.
