What Is Guardians of the Rift?

Guardians of the Rift (GOTR) is a Runecrafting minigame that made training RC actually enjoyable. Released in 2022, it quickly became the most popular RC training method and remains the meta in 2026. You gather essence, craft runes, and power up the Great Guardian to close an abyssal rift.

Requirements

27 Runecrafting (higher = better XP and runes)
10 Mining (for mining essence)
Temple of the Eye quest completed (quick quest)

How GOTR Works

Mine Essence from the large guardian remains
Craft Runes at active altars (marked on screen)
Power the Great Guardian by using runes/barriers on it
Protect the portal from abyssal creatures
Earn points based on your contributions

Optimal Strategy

Prioritize crafting on the glowing altar for bonus XP and elemental/catalytic points
Bring a chisel to create Guardian Fragments more efficiently
Use large essence pouches if you have them for more runes per trip
Play on GOTR worlds (W347) for organized games
Craft combination runes at higher RC levels for more points per game

Raiments of the Eye (full set): 60% more runes when Runecrafting. This is MASSIVE for profit. Buy this first.
Abyssal Lantern: Increases rune yields based on your Firemaking level
Ring of the Elements: Free teleports to all elemental altars
Abyssal Pearls: Use leftover pearls for Abyssal Dye (cosmetic)

XP Rates

Level 27-50: 15-25K XP/hr
Level 50-77: 30-50K XP/hr
Level 77-99: 50-65K XP/hr
Not the fastest RC XP (Lava Runes is faster) but significantly more enjoyable and rewarding.

Tips

Bring essence pouches. They work in GOTR and significantly boost your output
Use special attacks to break down Guardian Remains faster
Stay near the active portal for efficient altar access
Complete as many games as possible for the reward shop
