OSRS Patch May 27: LMS Rewards Lock, Wilderness Death Fix & Rubium Tweaks
This week's game update is a proper grab bag. Rubium mining and the new cannonball smithing methods got cut down to size, Last Man Standing rewards are now gated behind actually winning a game, and the Wilderness has a much friendlier rule for accidental PvP deaths. If you've been getting nuked while doing PvM after a quick PK skirmish, this one's especially for you.
⚔️ Rubium Mining and Smithing, Nerfed
The Red Reef brought Rubium, and apparently the rates were a bit too generous. Here's what changed:
Tick-manipulation removed: Rubium rocks no longer let you tick-manip for huge XP. It's now a moderate-XP gathering activity that still gives you the actual splinters you need.
Guaranteed splinters scale with Mining level: Level 48 gets 1 guaranteed, level 72 caps at 2.
Cannonball Smithing XP slashed hard: Rune Incendiary went from 150 XP per ball to 30. Rune Chainshot from 150 to 48. Bronze, Iron, Steel, Mithril and Adamant all got proportional cuts.
Crafting speed: New cannonballs now made at one set every 2 ticks.
If you were planning a Smithing grind off Incendiary cannonballs, the math just got a lot worse. Other methods are back in play.
🏹 Last Man Standing: Win Before You Shop
Justine's Stuff for the Last Shopper Standing now gates the tradeable items behind a win. Haven't won a game of LMS yet? You can only buy the untradeables. The Rune Pouch is still purchasable since it's untradeable, so newer players aren't completely shut out. But the Granite Maul ornament kit and similar items? Get a win first.
🗡️ Wilderness PvM Death Fix (Finally)
This is the change a lot of Wildy PvM-ers have been begging for. Previously, if a PKer tagged you and then you died to a boss 20 minutes later, the game still counted it as a PvP death. PKer got your loot, you got nothing.
Now: if you haven't been in player combat in the last 30 seconds before dying, it's treated as a PvM death.
No combat in last 30s: PKer gets nothing. Your stuff goes to your Gravestone or Death.
Combat in last 30s: Standard PvP death rules apply, no change.
Applies to all account types. If you do Wildy slayer or Callisto/Vet'ion runs, this is the single best change in the patch.
🛠️ Other Bits
Steel and Iron cannonballs and nails: Recoloured to actually look like their metals. New player experience improvement.
Cannon auto-retaliate: Hotfixed to remove the extra delay, matching standard combat timing.
Boat 'Em Up music track: Now correctly unlocks if you previously completed the quest (disembark at Last Light to grab it).
Leagues VI first board: Updated to show Kalmaars as the first maxer in Demonic Pacts.
